Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Psychoanalysis understands symptoms such as depression, anxiety, mood instability, disruptive behaviors, etc. as meaningful experiences with important histories and functions. Where other therapy approaches seek to manage and attempt to eliminate symptoms through learned skills, psychoanalysis explores the roots of problematic patterns in order to create more sustainable change. Our particular life experiences influence our symptoms; therefore, each treatment is unique and cannot be predetermined.

My practice is generalist, open to a wide range of mental health struggles. I have experience treating mood dysregulation, relational conflicts, oppositional/disruptive behaviors, personality issues, significant life adjustments, sexual disorders, and psychosis & schizophrenia. While a specific diagnosis is important in certain circumstances (insurance coverage, for example), my practice considers our struggles to be far more complex and meaningful than simple criteria and labels.
